Why we never say no.
There are several underlying maxims one hears around EW. If you volunteer with us more than a couple of days, you will hear one of us will say something like ‘Of course, we can take that. We never say no to any donation.’ Let me share an example of why.........
I received a phone call one afternoon from a friend who was moving to Florida. She wasn’t going to transport the six beds her family had been using. Did I want them? I said I would take them. The next day she brought them over along with all her sheets, pillowcases and blankets, too. I put the whole kit & kaboodle in my garage. It left not even a foot of space for anything else!
My husband came home expecting to put his car in the garage, where the beds now were. Having seen this sort of thing before, all he asked was how long I thought the garage would be like that. Since i didn't really know, we just waited to see.
This time it wasn’t long.
Four days later, I received a frantic call from a member of our local fire department. The fireman said that he was working with a family that had just lost everything they owned in a gigantic house fire. He was on the hunt for beds. I asked how many he needed. He hesitantly replied…six, and asked if I knew where I could find beds for them? Yes, I answered, in my garage!
I learned a long time ago that God moves in mysterious ways. If we are willing to just say “Yes” to His Plans, He’ll send opportunity after opportunity to let us help those who need it most.
